Tiger's eye is formed through a geological process known as pseudomorphism, where blue asbestos (crocidolite) is replaced by quartz under specific conditions. This transformation results in the characteristic chatoyant effect, where light reflects off the fibrous inclusions within the stone, creating a shimmering appearance. The name "tiger's eye" originates from its resemblance to the eye of a tiger.
